K-12 Internet Broadband Speed Test

This Internet Broadband Speed Test is provided free by SETDA for K-12 schools to provide real-time information on broadband connection speed and quality. Access to high-quality broadband at school is critical to ensuring students and teachers can rely on online instructional resources, tools and services.

There are four steps to using the K-12 Internet Broadband Speed Test:

  1. Determine if a) you wish to report your result to an open data set, or b) you are not at a school location or c) do not wish to contribute the data from your school. (The data set will be freely available to researchers and others in the education community to understand a full picture of broadband connectivity to our schools.)
  2. If you wish to contribute your data, find your school from the dropdown lists and click “Proceed With School Selected Above;” If you do not wish to contribute your data or you are not at a school location, click “Proceed with NO School.”
  3. Click “Begin Test.”
  4. Click “Submit Results Now” if you wish to submit your rresults to the open data set.

To get the best measure of maximum connection speed, run the speed test when Internet usage at your school is at its lowest – early in the morning, late in the evening or over the weekend. You may run the speed test multiple times to gain an understanding of available bandwidth throughout the day. If you are using the results as information to submit to the Technology Readiness Tool provided by PARCC and Smarter Balanced, please refer to guidance from the consortia for the optimal time to run the tool.

To start the speed test, please use the forms below or first learn about the tool and its use.
