SMARTER Balanced Names Alpert As Chief Operating Officer
The SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium today appointed Tony Alpert of Salem, Ore., as chief operating officer. His first day in the role will be July 6, 2011.
Alpert, who has served as executive committee co-chair of SMARTER Balanced since September 2010, will leave his position as the director of assessment for the Oregon Department of Education, where he has worked for 11 years. As chief operating officer, Alpert will provide operational leadership and executive management oversight to the projects that make up the Consortium’s work. His duties will include overseeing the fiscal operations of the Consortium; collaborating with the lead fiscal state (Washington) regarding procurement, contracts and grants; and providing expert guidance on assessment design and technology.
